In previous posts, we’ve discussed reasons that silicone hoses are the superior choice for a variety of industrial applications. Used by entrepreneurs in the aviation, marine, beer breweries, and auto mechanic industries, they’re considered to have many qualities that make them more desirable than rubber hoses. When it comes to the use of silicone tubes in automotive applications, some articles on the internet like to claim that there are drawbacks to using this material, however, we think these drawbacks have been somewhat blown out of proportion. We’ll address two of the most common complaints in the sections below.
1. High Price
The main reason that many auto mechanics and enthusiasts balk at the use of silicone hoses is because they cost more. We don’t deny it. When compared to traditional rubber auto hoses, silicone hoses do indeed cost more, although we make every effort to keep our costs as competitive as possible. It’s important to remember that you only get what you pay for, however. While silicone hoses cost more at the time of purchase, they’re likely to outlast your rubber hoses several times over, not to mention how much easier they are to remove.
2. Hose Clamps
Part of the reason that silicone tubes are much more durable than rubber hoses is that their walls are considerably thicker. Because of this, traditional hose clamps won’t work to keep them in place. If you want to upgrade the hoses in your vehicle, you’ll likely have to factor in the price of buying new hose clamps as well.
Sure, a high purchase price and the added cost of new hose clamps could be seen as disadvantages of silicone hoses. However, we like to remind our customers that these are actually opportunities to invest in the overall well being and resale value of your car.
