Silicone Hoses: Frequently Asked Questions

Posted by Flex Technologies on 24th Feb 2017

If you're new to the market, you may have a lot of questions about silicone hoses, their uses and application, etc. If you haven't gotten a chance yet, check out our FAQ page for some quick info (or you can always give us a call, as well). But since new questions, and occasionally even new answers, always tend to arise, we're going to continue with more FAQ segments. To that end, here are the answers to some frequently asked questions that come up about silicone hoses:

Why Use Silicone?

We've touched on this before, but it's always worth going over again; silicone has a couple properties that make it the go-to choice for many applications. First, unlike many plastics, it can withstand a lot of heat. This is important if you're using a silicone hose for your radiator. Second, silicone can withstand extremely high pressure. This is especially beneficial for plumbing applications.

Are Thicker Hoses Hardier?

Thicker silicone hoses are not necessarily hardier. The reinforcement of the silicone is what actually increases its tensile strength. For that reason, a thicker hose could potentially break under less pressure than a thinner hose, if it was reinforced more.

How Do I Know If I Need A Custom-Designed Hose?

We can't give you a "one size fits all" answer here, but we do offer support through 100% of our buying process. If you have questions, and need to determine the specs you require for a silicone hose, give us a call and we will help you out.

What Does OEM Stand For?

OEM stands for Original Equipment Manufacturer. It's actually a bit of a misnomer, because it refers to companies that resell products from another computer or IT production company, but under their own brand name. OEM companies typically have great relationships with their suppliers, and offer their own support, warranty and licensing.

Do You Already Have Examples Of Custom Design?

We sure do! We have the tooling for over 2000 custom designed hoses. So if you're looking for a custom design, there is actually a decent chance we already have it ready.

What If I Already Have A Different Types Of Pipes?

We can produce step down/step up connectors that allow you to connect to pipes with different outer diameters. These are included in our OEM capabilities, and we work with you to ensure everything gets measured out correctly.

Do You Have Different Color Options?

We have three standard colors: black, blue and red. However, you can also special order different colors, although minimums might apply.
