Silicone Hoses: What's Your Favorite Tubing For Homebrewing?

5th Dec 2015

As you get more and more into homebrewing, you'll become more familiar with the different types of tubing available. Why? Because for the most part, the best way to move your homebrew liquid around is with hosing or tubing. Whether you decide that you need vinyl, silicone hoses, or some other type of high-temperature tubing, we're going to take a look at the differences between the most popular types of tubing used in homebrewing setups.

Vinyl Tubing: Vinyl is probably going to be your most affordable and basic option. This is what you'll find in all hardware stores and you'll find both food-grade vinyl and not food-grade. If you have an option, go with the food-grade vinyl. We do not suggest using cheap vinyl tubing with hot wort or other high temperature liquids. The pros? Vinyl tubing is cheap and easy to find. The cons? It's notorious for curling at the ends.

Silicone Hoses: This is obviously our favorite option for transferring hot work during your homebrewing sessions. Why? Because silicone is rated for high temperatures! You can find silicone hoses in many different sizes, it's flexible, and it doesn't curl like vinyl tubing does.

Other high temperature hoses: While silicone hoses are definitely the most common tubing used amongst homebrewers, there are some other high temperature tubing options, including:

  • Santoprene
  • Theroplastic
  • High Temperature PVC Free

Here at SiliconeHoses.com, you'll find all of the silicone hoses that you need for your homebrew setup - or whatever other project that you're working on that calls for silicone hosing! Need help? Call us!
